HEARTLAND THEATRE COMPANY SEEKS ASSISTANT MANAGER

Heartland Theatre Company is seeking an organized, dependable Assistant Manager to help keep things running smoothly behind the scenes. This part-time, independent contractor role provides administrative and operational support in coordination with the Managing Director and plays an important role in supporting volunteers, patrons, and donors.
The Assistant Manager handles routine administrative tasks, maintains accurate records, and works with shared spreadsheets and basic office tools. Clear communication, attention to detail, and a friendly, professional approach are essential. Experience in customer service, nonprofit work, or theatre is helpful but not required. We are happy to train the right person.
What You’ll Do
- Support day-to-day administrative and operational needs.
- Maintain accurate records for reservations, donors, and events.
- Assist with box office operations and customer service for all performances.
- Help coordinate small events and front-of-house activities.
- Work with shared digital files, spreadsheets, and basic office tools.
- Communicate regularly with the Managing Director regarding priorities and updates.
- Handle sensitive and confidential information.
Skills & Experience Required
- Organized and detail oriented.
- Comfortable using email, spreadsheets, scanning tools, and shared online files.
- Able to manage recurring tasks in a small number of weekly hours.
- Reliable, self-directed, and able to work independently.
- Clear and respectful communicator with staff, volunteers, and patrons.
Nice to Have
- Experience in an administrative, office, or support role (paid or volunteer.)
- Customer service or box office experience.
- Experience with nonprofit, community, or arts organizations.
- Experience working with volunteer teams or coordinating small events.
- Familiarity with Heartland Theatre Company or community-based theatre.

Compensation
This is a part-time independent contractor position with an annual stipend of $6,000, paid monthly.
Time Commitment
The Assistant Manager role averages approximately 10 hours a week. Hours are flexible and set month to month by mutual agreement and may be irregular, especially during busy times throughout the year.
