Has there been any movement to put a ski resort in the Ruby Mountains? They get plenty of snow and are only 3.5 hours from SLC, which would make it an alternative for people looking to avoid Wasatch traffic. Elko, NV is also pretty close, so it is not too isolate and there is a place for a workforce to live.

I don’t think there has been any proposals for the Ruby mountains but I am not entirely sure. Places that could be good could be the area around King Peak, the area around Verdi Peak, and the area around Ruby Dome.

Wendover is already a destination town with the casinos for Utahans who want to gamble and buy lottery tickets. I think it has a chance.

Nevada does not have a state lottery. The casino lobby has tremendous influence over the Nevada Legislature and I highly doubt there will ever be a lottery here.

In Utah, all the ski resorts are so close together that no one would want to drive 3.5 hours from Salt Lake if they can drive less than an hour to Ogden. That’s part of the reason why Nordic built their six pack, to attract the same crowds that Basin gets when the Cottonwoods are closed after a big storm.

Lee Canyon already has plans to expand but they haven’t been enacted yet.

Lee Canyon sure isn’t attracting anyone from Utah. The only advantage they have is being close to Vegas.

by that statement wouldn’t it make sense for a resort-like Lee Canyon to expand. It would give Vegas more skiing terrain.

They really need more terrain for how high their price is. Especially when Brian Head is bigger and cheaper.

The Ruby Mountains are in an isolated area. The closest town with lodging is Elko, and though it has an airport and I-80 for traveler access, it is highly doubtful a ski resort will ever occur in the Rubies. With the connecting airports to Elko being either SLC or Reno, it would not be a tourist draw with ski resorts closer to those airports. Overall, it would not be worth the investment.
