Aug 25, 2015 at 20:33 comment added user252450 @user254665 $v_p(n)$ is the highest power of $p$ which divides $n$ (where $p$ is prime ) . For example : $v_2(100)=2$ , $v_5(100)=2$ and $v_7(7^{100})=100$ .
