Also, the distinction is important when describing the best form for an answer. For example, in beginning algebra we want students to understand that slope is best left as a "improper" fraction, so that it's saying rise over run, unless a decimal version works better in the situation. y-intercept is best written as a mixed number, so you can see where it is on a number line. | |
