    $\begingroup$ this is a very elegant approach. Because Fnum varies rapidly near startY, W' is large there, and your error estimate also is large there, solving the equation on a very fine mesh, say 10.^-5, over the region {startY,0.02} may have merit. $\endgroup$ Commented Nov 26, 2014 at 14:20
