    As your answer proves (we're rendering this one with CommonMark already) it continues to work. I'm not here to tell you what to do but if your reason for using HTML over Markdown was Markdown's quirks, things might have become more reasonable now that we've switched to CommonMark and you might want to give it a try. Mixing HTML and Markdown has been and continues to be a hot take as it can result in really hard-to-predict behavior. Commented Jun 7, 2020 at 10:53
