I assume there’s some reason behind it, but I haven’t seen it explained anywhere (maybe I missed it?). OP just says it’s embarrassingly old-fashioned and lists a bunch of software I don’t use or hate and says they don’t do it. My main experience with this paradigm is Canvas and it’s an awful mess that I hate and can never get to behave the way I want it to. | |

It's the one thing I actually like about the Rich Text editor on mobile: No more switching keyboards with long button presses, and no more selecting text. | |
