    OK, the big fingers problem. But some people have desktops. Can you tweak the css to make it more suitable to the work with a mouse when there is one? Sadly modern desktop interface tend to look like blown-up mobile phone interfaces. And for active states, traditionally you just change the colors slightly, it doesn't require any space.
