- Does the closed-source application depend on the GPL application in any way to fulfill its requirements? Or is the dependency only the other way around?Bart van Ingen Schenau– Bart van Ingen Schenau2018-10-19 09:40:37 +00:00Commented Oct 19, 2018 at 9:40
- It's hard to say how deep dependency is. Closed-source application is able to work without open-source so as open-source can work alone, but functionality of closed-source application could be described as "service provider", so it's useless without some client application, which is our open-source in our case (sorry for abstract terms)user13416– user134162018-10-19 09:51:17 +00:00Commented Oct 19, 2018 at 9:51

- Is the IPC interface already present in the GPL'ed program, or do you plan to add this on to the GPL program (and of course make these changes available per the GPL)?Brandin– Brandin2018-10-19 11:30:44 +00:00Commented Oct 19, 2018 at 11:30
- Sure, it will require some changes in GPL application sources, and the client side code will be available as GPL requires, it would look like some advanced SQL query interface to the service. However, service side should stay closeduser13416– user134162018-10-19 12:05:40 +00:00Commented Oct 19, 2018 at 12:05

How to Tag
A tag is a keyword or label that categorizes your question with other, similar questions. Choose one or more (up to 5) tags that will help answerers to find and interpret your question.
- complete the sentence: my question is about...
- use tags that describe things or concepts that are essential, not incidental to your question
- favor using existing popular tags
- read the descriptions that appear below the tag
If your question is primarily about a topic for which you can't find a tag:
- combine multiple words into single-words with hyphens (e.g. gpl-3), up to a maximum of 35 characters
- creating new tags is a privilege; if you can't yet create a tag you need, then post this question without it, then ask the community to create it for you
