    $\begingroup$ I feel like this otherwise good answer is lacking an explanation of why we'd call the proportionality $m$ in the harmonic potential "mass" whereas in the analogy it would be stiffness, and mass should scale the kinetic term? $\endgroup$ Commented Jan 12, 2021 at 23:19
