    However, the sum MOD k is a bad way of combining the digits into a hash, because it ignores order and has almost no avalanching. It's still fine for an educational project, but in practice it's a pretty awful choice even for hash tables optimized for consecutive/predictable hashes. Commented Apr 15, 2014 at 7:17
