Thanks. I think what I'm describing is in the "system test" category. But to me, system tests would include performance and load testing, which I'm not trying to do.

@Thor: you can do performance and load testing at several levels. Most often, it's done at the system level, though. I actually though you were mostly concerned with component integration tests .
