  • If I were starting out fresh today, I'd probably pick Ruby -- it's inherited much of the Lisp nature, but it has more modern libraries and a single benevolent dictator driving it forward. But, that wasn't the question the OP asked. Commented Oct 4, 2010 at 14:47
