  • It was a while before systems regularly bumped against the 640 KiB limit of address space usable for software RAM. The IBM PC maxed out at 640 KiB; it wasn't until the IBM PC/AT you could add more, and even then only because it used the 80286 instead. Commented Aug 10, 2017 at 14:12
