Some engineers might have groaned at the number of designs that used such chips in scenarios where alternatives might have been cheaper, or that would have benefitted from the DSR/DTR/DCD/RI, but the MAX-232 was a good solid "It Just Works" device for applications which could get by with Rx/Tx, and one additional pair of transmit/receive pins (usually RTS and CTS). | |
