Hello, and welcome to is LJ's premier and largest community for the discussion of romance novels! No matter what your area of interest -- historicals, contemporary, paranormal, fantasy -- you can discuss it here! Introduce yourself, ask for recommendations, talk about your favourite authors and books, post surveys, read and write reviews. We are a friendly and open community, always looking for new discussion -- come join us and see for yourself!

Introduction Template
By no means mandatory, but a good way to dive into the community! Use lj-cuts at your discretion; if your answers are short, no need, but if you get into long and involved stories, be courteous and pop that part of the post under a cut. You'll want to post in HTML, not rich text, in order for the markup to work.

Review Header Template
Also by no means mandatory, but would be very helpful for keeping things organised. Particularly the above-lj-cut part. I'd love to encourage the use of this, particularly for those people who enjoy writing long, in-depth reviews, just to have some sort of standardisation. But I won't bite you if you don't use it, or if you modify it to better suit your own style. ;)

Rec Lists
The reclists are compilations of the best of the best, divided into respective categories. Here you can find top recommendations if you're looking to dive into a particular period or genre, or if you're new to romance novels entirely and need a good place to start! Peruse at will!
FAQ I'm looking for a bodyguard plotline/African safari thriller/15th century Russian court intrigue/other very specific theme. How can I find one? First, I suggest you check through our rec lists to see if anything there fits your description. If you still don't find anything matching what you want, feel free to post a request to the community in general for recommendations. Our members are very helpful and extremely broadly-read: if it exists, the chances are good that someone here knows about it.
I see you have a lot of tags. What should I do with them? Use them! Using tags will make your mod very happy, as it means less work for her. I encourage entries to be tagged by (when applicable) author and genre. Be as general or as specific if you want. A contemporary novel might also be suspense or paranormal. A time travel novel could be classified as contemporary and Victorian. If you're writing about an author that doesn't have a tag made, just ping me a note and I'll add it! There are also tags for requests (if you're looking for a certain kind of book), polls (actual lj-polls or more informal surveys, to see what people are reading/look for/hate/whatever), quizzes/memes, introductions, and "for sale" notices. The review tag is meant to be used for full-length, in-depth reviews -- not the quick run-downs, but the ones that are several paragraphs of explanation and reaction. A full list of the community tags can be found here.
I'm an author. Can I self-promote here? Any self-promotions need to go through me, the moddess. If you want to promote your own work, send me an email at callie.r.morris (at) gmail.com, with the header "LJ: romancenovels promotion". Once a month, I will collect all promotions that have been emailed to me into a mod post. Any other promotions I see will be deleted. Why this rule? I've had multiple complaints about people self-promoting when they're not active in the community. The hit-and-runs are not appreciated by our members.
I'm looking to sell off a bunch of romance novels. Can I advertise my sale here? Yes, occasionally. Don't go overboard, don't advertise the same eBay auction more than once, don't make a weekly habit of it. If I notice a problem, you'll be warned, and excess posts will be deleted. Same goes for any similar promotions, giveaways, etc.
Can I post icons from romance novel art/wallpapers or other graphics/quizzes? Yup! As long as they're romance-novel related, they are a-okay with me. As with everything, just don't get too spammy -- any graphics posts with more than three items should be under a cut -- and if one person posts a quiz or a meme, don't make a new post with your response; just add it as a comment. Be courteous to the f-lists of others!
OMG there's a new book coming out by my favourite author, and I want to squeal about it even though there are already 18 posts in the community on the same subject. Can I??? Please don't. While we all know it's thrilling when a great author puts out a new book, no one needs her f-list spammed with a ton of posts which say the exact same thing. Share your enthusiasm with someone else who's posted on it! Comments are your friends.
I want paid time/free music/someone to upload something to YouTube. Can I ask here? No. (And yes, I have seen people ask for all of these things here). Keep it on-topic, folks. Listing a bunch of romance authors and then asking for random free stuff will be considered spamming, and you'll be reported as such.
I run a similarly-themed (romance, history, book) community. Want to affiliate? Sure! Send me an email at callie.r.morris (at) gmail.com.
