The question is whether the target knows they are targeted before/during the casting of the spell so that they can decide whether to fail the save, which means that no spell effects have happened yet. \$\endgroup\$Ryan C. - \$\begingroup\$ Just to clarify, after the save has been made, the target knows it was the target of a spell, correct? \$\endgroup\$BlueMoon93– BlueMoon932019-07-24 09:53:33 +00:00Commented Jul 24, 2019 at 9:53
- 2\$\begingroup\$ @BlueMoon93 No. Why would you? The player might know (because they've been asked to roll a wisdom saving throw for no obvious reason, and could suspect something), but the character has been given no information at all. The only reason I'd see for a character to know they had been targeted by the Scrying spell would be if they failed the save and can see invisible things. In that case, they'd see the sensor floating near them. \$\endgroup\$Gandalfmeansme– Gandalfmeansme2019-07-24 17:32:52 +00:00Commented Jul 24, 2019 at 17:32
- 2\$\begingroup\$ As for a means to intentionally fail a scrying save....that's what spells like Sending are for. "Hey, Mr. Spy, I'm about to scry on you, okay?" \$\endgroup\$guildsbounty– guildsbounty2021-07-31 13:54:42 +00:00Commented Jul 31, 2021 at 13:54

How to Tag
A tag is a keyword or label that categorizes your question with other, similar questions. Choose one or more (up to 5) tags that will help answerers to find and interpret your question.
- Make sure you include the system tag for the game system you are asking about (if appropriate and if the tag exists).
- complete the sentence: my question is about...
- use tags that describe things or concepts that are essential, not incidental to your question
- favor using existing popular tags
- read the descriptions that appear below the tag
If your question is primarily about a topic for which you can't find a tag:
- combine multiple words into single-words with hyphens (e.g. dnd-5e-2014), up to a maximum of 35 characters
- creating new tags is a privilege; if you can't yet create a tag you need, then post this question without it, then ask the community to create it for you
