In most of the basic rules outside of Tasha's at 4th, 8th, etc, one has the choice of leveling up (increasing stats) or taking a feat. Increasing stats takes one to a new Tier. Failure to increase stats can leave one weaker than others in a party, or monsters, unless there are significant gains in other ways. It's always a consequential choice to take a feat instead of increasing stats. | |
