That is, you "rehearse" the encounter for a regular party (say Wizard, Cleric, Rogue, Fighter) of the appropriate level, avoid success to be tied to preparing a specific spell/succeeding in a specific skill check/... and then just do a sanity check that your actual party should be able to deal with it. This avoids "overfitting" the challenge, which ultimately reduces player agencies since no matter what build they evolve the challenge is always the same difficulty. | |
