- 4if that were the case i'd also assume that someone else would have been able to create the same type of automated system eliminating the need for them to use a phone as a connection in later parts. it is a huge plot device. i mean you'd think they would have something like that to begin with if it were possible. i think the wachowskis didn't really think it entirely through. i think a far more plausible explanation is something to do with him working with the agents and them disconnecting him from the inside.Alex– Alex2017-05-07 13:39:01 +00:00Commented May 7, 2017 at 13:39
- 1@Alex - More plausible than what the writers said about the world that they created?Valorum– Valorum2017-05-07 13:54:56 +00:00Commented May 7, 2017 at 13:54
- when things are not entirely clear it leaves room for speculation. my opinion is just that: speculation based on the matrix universe as we know it. i feel as though when creating large grandiose universes its difficult to cover all the basis - hence plot holes. this would account for a major one as it would eliminate the need for a phone, which functions as a measure of urgency and a plot device in and of itself; i refuse to believe that in all the time the resistance has existed nobody but cypher figured this crucial thing out.Alex– Alex2017-05-07 14:11:20 +00:00Commented May 7, 2017 at 14:11
- 1so i tend to air on the side that the bros didn't really think it through and that there is a more plausible explanation.Alex– Alex2017-05-07 14:11:23 +00:00Commented May 7, 2017 at 14:11

A tag is a keyword or label that categorizes your question with other, similar questions. Choose one or more (up to 5) tags that will help answerers to find and interpret your question.
Type the name of the science fictional or fantastical work your question is about (Example:
star-wars).For questions not specific to any one work, use concept tags to describe your question (Example:
story-identification).Tagging rules:
- complete the sentence: my question is about...
- use tags that describe things or concepts that are essential, not incidental to your question
- favor using existing popular tags
- read the descriptions that appear below the tag
If your question is primarily about a topic for which you can't find a tag:
- combine multiple words into single-words with hyphens (e.g. story-identification), up to a maximum of 35 characters
- creating new tags is a privilege; if you can't yet create a tag you need, then post this question without it, then ask the community to create it for you
