Feb 24, 2017 at 10:50 comment added John John Ok i agree with you,, so seems my appraoch is the only valid appraoch i can have, taking into account that i need to use columns that are supported by the Metadata Navigation + that i am using page layouts .. but the problem that i search online but could not find any similar article which shows how i can do this... seems i am the first one who wanted to have a cascading lists inside my page layout + enable Metadata Navigation for the columns representing the cascading list also ...
Feb 24, 2017 at 5:20 comment added Gautam Sheth I thought about it a bit and i would suggest that you use event receiver attached to the company and the department lists. The issue with timer job is that it will run regardless of whether a new item has been added or not whereas in case of event receiver it will trigger only on item added/updated.
Feb 23, 2017 at 11:19 comment added John John So is the approach i proposed a way to try ? the only issue i can see in the appraoch i proposed is that it is a bit complex and require some development time.... so i was asking if there is a simpler appraoch i can follow to achieve cascading lists taking into account that i want the 2 columns (“company” & “department”) to be used inside the Metadata navigation for my list..
Feb 23, 2017 at 11:05 comment added Gautam Sheth yes lookup + spservices wont work here
Feb 23, 2017 at 10:54 comment added John John so seems using lookup columns + SPServices are not going to work in my case as this will limit using the Metadata navigation for my wiki pages.. is this correct ?
Feb 23, 2017 at 5:07 comment added Gautam Sheth yeah i checked and understood it , unfortunately dont have simpler answer right now.
Feb 22, 2017 at 16:10 comment added John John did you have the time to check my above comment.. thanks
Feb 22, 2017 at 13:52 comment added John John now inside my enterprise wiki site collection i will not be creating new wiki pages using createform.aspx as in enterprise wiki it uses page layouts. also if i define the two columns as lookup fields, then seems i can not define lookups inside my Managed Navigation settings for my wiki page library (Page library>>settings>>Metadata navigation settings >>Configure Navigation Hierarchies), as managed Navigation can only uses content type, metadata & choice column,, but it does not allow to define lookup columns. did you get my concern?. i will update my question to include this restriction
