So THERE IS a Rosetta stone for the caml schema! That said, if I'm not interpreting the runes wrong, the linked document would confirm that the Mappings section could be use to support localization of a choice/multichoice field. The problem is... how? As I said, I didn't find any way to read the mapped value in codebehind. Take the example in my question: the "All Server" choice for the HealthRuleScope field is saved in the database "as-is" - the mapped value "1" is nowhere to be found.
