    You 'cant use a database' but your approach is 'program my own database engine' whats the real restriction? cant install a database? just use an inmemory one like sqlite Commented Oct 6, 2016 at 8:08

    Seriously, why do you accept such limitations? No database for two one gig files with these specs? tell them to do the job themselves. In any case this sounds like reinventing the wheel, use some data analytics tool like Knime, RapidMiner or even IBM's Watson Analytics. Commented Oct 6, 2016 at 8:17

  • Excel for 2 GB of data because you don't have a database? 2 GB is the limit in 32 bit. There are many free databases that do this. Commented Oct 6, 2016 at 15:36
