Timeline for if I write 16 bit floating point number representation of 2044 and 2045.5 it's seems like the same, which is 0 1001001 11111111 why is that?

First I have to give the 16-bit floating representation under those conditions(mantissa = 8 bits and exponent = 7 bits) then if I found any contradiction between the solutions I had to explain it. I gave my answer as 'there are not enough bits in mantissa to represent 2045.5' as my answer. I was not sure about it and That's why I posted it here. Thank you so much for your support, I think now I know the correct answer. | |
