Consider running the staging environment with shorter query timeouts than production if the hardware is comparable. That´s a tradeoff, too. Sometimes that could cause unwanted differences in behavior and invalidate some of the testing. Way more often, though, this will help you spot major query performance problems or approaching problems sooner.
