gEcrit is a Python orientated source code editor. It tries to keep the interface as clean as possible and keep the menus simple. It features all the common features a Python programmer might need, including an interactive Python shell.

CoVim enables collaborative, real-time editing sessions in Vim by networking multiple clients into a shared buffer. Participants can see each other’s cursors and changes as they type, approximating pair programming inside a modal editor. Sessions are hosted on a server process that coordinates edits and user presence across machines. The goal is to keep collaboration simple while preserving familiar Vim motions and commands. It is particularly handy for remote code walkthroughs, mentoring, or quick review sessions without switching to a different editor. vimplus is an opinionated Vim “distribution” and automatic configuration program by chxuan which bundles a large number of plugins and configurations so that you can essentially install Vim once and have a fully-loaded development setup. Rather than starting with a bare .vimrc and gradually adding plugins, vimplus gives you a pre-configured environment that includes file explorers, completion, status lines, themes, and more. It includes a custom installer and update script, and places a lot of the configuration into ~/.vimrc.custom.plugins and ~/.vimrc.custom.config for user customisations. This approach can save a lot of time for users who don’t want to spend weeks assembling their Vim environment. However, because it includes many plugins and opinionated mappings, some users feel it’s heavier than a minimal Vim setup and may require unlearning some defaults. For developers who want a “just work” Vim setup for C/C++, Python, JavaScript, etc., vimplus is a very strong starting point.

rust.vim is the official Vim plugin from the Rust Lang Foundation team that adds support for Rust files in Vim and Neovim. It provides file-detection (so .rs files are recognised), syntax highlighting tuned for Rust’s syntax and macros, and supports formatting via rustfmt and other language-specific tooling. The plugin also integrates with other Vim tools and linters, helping you build a full Rust-editing workflow in Vim. Because Rust’s macro system and language features are more complex than many languages, rust.vim handles special tokens and highlights accordingly. Though it doesn’t itself provide full language-server (LSP) capabilities, it lays the foundation so you can plug in LSP or other completion/diagnostic plugins. Many Rust users say that rust.vim is a reliable baseline for making Vim feel like a competent Rust editor rather than a bare text editor.
