    Also, you won't see what kind of Exception ex is in the test results when the day comes where the test fails. Commented Mar 14, 2013 at 16:13

    This can be improved a bit by changing how you assert at the end. assertEquals(ExpectedException.class, e.getClass()) will show you the expected and actual values when the test fails. Commented Nov 15, 2018 at 0:54
