    It might be worth mentioning that 16.8 supports restrict keyword, even when the default of C89+partial C99 is used. This is a potentially confusing situation as VS2017 and VS2019 prior to 16.8 did not support it. Microsoft confirms that /std:c17 enables support for it, but doesn't tell you it is supported without it, too. Commented Sep 1, 2021 at 18:44
