    These terribly troublesome classes were supplanted years ago by the modern java.time classes, specifically Instant and ZonedDateTime. Commented Jul 11, 2018 at 9:32
  • Solution above should add 1900 to the year, and should NOT subtract 1 from the month, and also should run cal.clear() after the Calendar.getInstance() line, so that the hours/minutes/seconds/milliseconds get zeroed (as they do in the Date constructor). Commented May 3, 2019 at 23:24
