  • Just to avoid confusion, the usual mathematical definition of an "embedding" requires the map to be injective. Your map from the complex numbers into the Reals (by ignoring the imaginary part) is no embedding, but a projection. Only the other direction is an embedding. Commented Feb 10 at 13:53
