    @James, the page linked to says it is in <stdlib.h>. As for portability, perhaps you can list some examples of “perfectly good portable solutions”? Commented Apr 4, 2012 at 3:35

    @Synetech The page linked to describes a Microsoft extension, not <stdlib.h>. And the mot obvious portable solution is boost::filesystem. Commented Apr 4, 2012 at 7:19

    @James, you don’t have _splitpath in the stdlib.h of your copy of VS? Then you may want to do a repair install of VS. Commented Apr 4, 2012 at 19:05
