Gemini in Google Classroom is available with all Google Workspace for Education editions.

Features of Gemini in Google Classroom

Get help when you draft content and resources with Gemini in a central destination in Google Classroom, which currently includes the following features:

For educators
  • Outline a lesson plan: You can generate learning objectives and lesson plans with generative AI. This feature can provide creative inspiration to help you get started or help make your lesson plans more engaging for students.
  • Craft a compelling hook: Spark ideas for fun and new ways to engage students. These can be used as short lesson openers, class activities, or more. You can also specify engagement types to tailor ideas to your students' interests.
  • Generate a quiz: You can generate questions to check students' understanding or create a quick quiz.
  • Re-level text: Create a simplified version of your text to accommodate a specific reading level.
  • Create a vocabulary list: Generate a list of relevant grade-appropriate vocabulary words for a topic. Vocabulary lists include the grammatical categories, definitions, and examples of the usage.
  • Develop reading-comprehension questions: Based on any text, you can generate reading-comprehension questions as an exit ticket or formal assessment.
  • Create a rubric: Define evaluation criteria and expectations for your students.
  • Tackle common misconceptions: Find remediation strategies for the top misconceptions about a topic.
  • Brainstorm project ideas: Engage students with any topic through individual or group projects.
  • Translate text: Translate your text in over 100 languages through AI and share with your class.
  • Build a choice board: Provide students a choice of diverse activities to practice or display mastery on a given topic.
  • Write an informational text: Write an engaging informational text to help students learn about a topic.
  • Write a story: Use AI to generate engaging, imaginative and captivating stories.
  • Starter prompts for the Gemini app: Collaborate with the Gemini app using starter prompts to get help with common tasks like brainstorming real-world examples, drafting a class newsletter, and more.
  • Collaborate with Gemini throughout Google Classroom:
    • Convert rubrics from Drive or local files: Select a saved rubric in your Google Drive or in your device. Then, Gemini can help transform it into a rubric to use in Google Classroom.
    • Generate stories in Read Along in Classroom: Based on the info you provide, Gemini can help create a story to assign to your students for personalized reading help.
For students

Note: Gemini in Classroom for higher education students is rolling out in the coming weeks.

From a central destination in Google Classroom, students aged 18+ can learn and study with NotebookLM and Gemini for Education, a no-cost version of the Gemini app built for educational institutions. These Google AI tools have expanded access to our most capable AI models and enterprise-grade privacy and security, where data isn’t reviewed by humans or used to train AI models.

With Gemini in Google Classroom, students can:

  • Build a deep understanding instead of just getting quick answers with Guided Learning, a mode in Gemini powered by the world’s leading model for learning.
  • Prepare for exams with personalized practice quizzes, study guides and flashcards using Gemini Canvas.
  • Try out Gems, custom versions of Gemini that can help with any topic or task based on context you provide.
  • Use NotebookLM to transform class content into podcast-style audio overviews, video overviews, flashcards, interactive visual diagrams, and more.
