This seems like a bug, but I'm not sure whether it should be fixed in datatool or hyperref. I doubt whether tabularx is at fault here, and @DavidCarlisle would agree. ;)

Almost 10 years later and the problem remains.... I spent hours discussing with @Paulo Cereda and finally I found this post. Thanks a lot.

create code fences with backticks ` or tildes ~

like so

put returns between paragraphs
for linebreak add 2 spaces at end

backtick escapes `like _so_`
quote by placing > at start of line
to make links (use https whenever possible)
