Thanks to both of you for writing to the maintainers. I'm reluctant to install the small version; it's so nice not to have to worry about whether a package is missing; but it's useful to know how.

create code fences with backticks ` or tildes ~

like so

put returns between paragraphs
for linebreak add 2 spaces at end

backtick escapes `like _so_`
quote by placing > at start of line
to make links (use https whenever possible)
