My research for today wandered all over the place. I'm going to have to decide how to split up my research links but I'm not organised enough to keep them on separate posts and try to tie them all up with links. Some of them are also incredibly project-specific and wouldn't a) be of interest to anyone else or b) be great left unlocked. Hrm.

Thinking thoughtful thinky thoughts. Hee. I might have to make that a tag.

Note: Some of these links contain images (the ones which do are fairly self-explanatory) which are fairly shocking and I'm not sure if you'd qualify them as worksafe. Just so we know.

A list of World Press Photos of the Year from Wikipedia. These are in turns shocking and sickening and amazing. I'm particularly interested in the 1962 winner snapped by Héctor Rondón Lovera which is the image of a dying soldier clinging to a priest who waded through sniper fire to give him his last rites and the 1963 winner taken by Malcolm W. Browne which is of Thich Quang Duc, the Buddhist monk who set himself on fire to protest against the Vietnamese government.

The Last Word of Fictional Characters site which is in alphabetical order and includes some true classics and some surprising additions (everything from Agamemnon to Gollum – and it is really worrying that Word's dictionary recognises the spelling of Gollum).

World list of suicides which goes all the way back to Chinese emperors right up to the present day. It shows some interesting trends when it comes to suicide and the changing attitudes to it over the years. The link is from Wikipedia. Where else would you find this kind of information?

Fictional100.com is a website containing a top 100 list of fictional characters who ever existed. This is an actual published book from what I can see but there is information, extracts and a top 10. I can't seem to find many links about the most popular fictional characters for some reason.

A list of unusual deaths from, where else? Wikipedia. The funniest one is the vat of chocolate. If I die, can I die in a vat of chocolate, please? Hey, knowing me, I might even drink my way out before it's finished drowning me…
