Fix invalid menu items

An invalid menu item is an item on your site’s menu that points to an address or URL that no longer exists. The invalid menu item will not appear on your live site, but you will see the menu item when you’re editing your site’s menu.

Understanding invalid menu items

Invalid menu items occur when:

  • You’ve deleted a page or post that was in your menu
  • You’ve renamed or deleted a category or tag used in your menu
  • A linked item has been moved or changed

When a menu item becomes invalid, you will see a squiggly line and the word “invalid” in parentheses after the link name when you click your navigation in the editor.

Visitors to your live site will not see the link at all. It will only appear when you are editing your site.
