The AI Assistant Block adds AI-powered text generation into the WordPress editor, helping you to draft, transform, translate, and alter both new and existing content. This guide will show you how to use the AI Assistant block on WordPress.com.

To add the AI Assistant block, click on the + Block Inserter icon and search for “AI Assistant”. Click to add the block to the post or page.

Using your keyboard, you can also type /ai on a new line and press enter to quickly add a new AI Assistant block.

When you first add the AI Assistant block to your post or page, it gives you a text box to write your prompt:
In the box labeled “Write about…“, type your prompt and click the “Generate” button. Alternatively, click the “Write with AI…” option on the toolbar to open a dropdown list of writing prompts to help you get started.
At this point, the AI Assistant begins generating your content. If the information in the output is incorrect or not exactly as you wanted, you can click “Stop” in the prompt bar. You can also use the Esc key on the keyboard to stop AI content generation.
After the AI Assistant completes its answer, click “Accept” if you are happy with the result. The AI Assistant will be removed, leaving the text in a Paragraph block.
Alternatively, click the “Regenerate” icon to generate text again if you don’t like the initial result.
You can also discard the generated text by clicking the trash can icon to delete the AI Assistant block.

When you click on the block, a toolbar of options will appear above it:
The AI Assistant block has the following options in its toolbar:
- Change block type.
- Drag the block.
- Move the block up or down.
- Change tone: apply one of 10 different tones to your content, including formal, informal, confident, and humorous.
- Translate your content into one of 12 languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Arabic, Hindi, and Korean
- Improve: Click to reveal three options:
- Summarize produces a summary of the topic you’ve chosen.
- Make longer adds more content to the AI response.
- Make shorter condenses the previous version of the AI’s response.
- Write with AI… provides options to adjust your prompt and regenerate the content.
