  • Ted Lerner was a real estate developer and the owner of the Washington Nationals baseball team. He died in February 2023 at age 97.
  • In 1952, a 26-year-old Lerner borrowed $250 from his wife to start a real estate company, selling homes for developers.
  • He sold 22,000 of them, then decided to become a builder. His Lerner Enterprises grew to be among the largest owners of real estate in the Washington, D.C area.
  • In 2006, Lerner bought the Nationals for $450 million. He passed control of the team to his son Mark in 2018.
  • The Lerner family has donated to charities including Children's National Hospital in D.C., George Washington University and Hebrew University in Jerusalem.
