  • Launch day gets all the attention. But for live service games, it's really just the beginning. What happens next—how you grow, engage, and sustain your player base—is where the real work begins. Live service games succeed when five systems work together: ▪️ Acquisition: Help players discover your game and stick with it through onboarding. ▪️ Engagement: Give players progression to chase and events to experience. ▪️ Retention: Build core loops worth repeating and communities worth joining. ▪️ Monetization: Design stores and purchase opportunities that offer clear value. ▪️ Analysis: Let player behavior guide your updates. We spent a year gathering insights to help you get these systems to work together. Now, we're sharing a live service checklist tailored to support both VR developers and mobile world creators. One resource, best practices built to last. Check it out: https://bit.ly/4cSt34J #VR #Developer #XR #Mobile #Creator

  • The through line from GDC 2026? VR's momentum is real, and developers are finding success across several genres. Across our sessions, we shared the tools, insights, and strategies to help you build faster and grow your audience with confidence. ▪ Data-driven retention lessons ▪ LiveOps strategies from teams building lasting engagement ▪ Frameworks for designing hands-first experiences ▪ AI-assisted workflows are compressing iteration cycles ▪ How discovery actually works in the Meta Horizon Store We also shared updates on Meta Horizon Store improvements, emerging audience segments, and new monetization tools to help you grow with confidence. • Between the demos, the sessions, and the hallway convos, the energy around building for VR is hard to miss. We asked people a few “this or that?” questions. What we learned: sometimes even the most simple prompts get the strongest responses. Watch and share your picks in the comments. Shout out to Shika Duncan (JoyReign), Jeremy Duncan, Francesco Ciulla, Dilmer Valecillos 👓, and UnityCodeMonkey. #GDC2026 #VR #GameDev

📢 GDC 2026 was epic this year! 🎉 Honestly, this event left me with so many great memories. I made incredible new friends, caught up with amazing existing ones, listened to developer feedback, and learned about a lot of exciting new games. It was also humbling to see so many people enjoy my part of the AI tools GDC talk. I truly appreciated all the positive feedback around our new MCP tools, and I also value hearing where we can improve, getting that kind of feedback in person is always incredibly helpful. Personally, I’m deeply excited about 2026 and beyond. I was moved to now be under Chris Pruett’s leadership, and listening to his talk was truly inspiring. Hearing about where we’re heading with VR really energizes me. I can also confirm that we are heavily invested in VR this year, yes we’re also working on new hardware, just like he mentioned during his talk. Another area we’re heavily investing in is community and tools. On the community side, through Meta Horizon Start and the efforts I’ll personally be leading this year such as running the Meta Horizon Insiders program, and you will see me at a variety of events and supporting developers through hackathons. My biggest takeaway is this, this is the best moment to build for VR/MR. It may sound biased because I work at Meta, but it’s honestly not. I work very closely with our engineering teams, and I’ve seen firsthand how exponentially more productive you can be when using our AI tools. Because of that, I expect many developers to realize this and start building games at a much faster pace this year. I’ll be building as well. I’m excited to join this journey with all of you because I truly believe in XR and I know how talented this community is. Thank you ❤️ to everyone who came to GDC. I truly appreciate every single one of you building for Quest. 🙏🚀 #meta #xr #developers

  • "If you could build any VR game, what would it be?" At GDC 2026, we asked developers this exact question. The answers were candid, creative, and inspiring: a reminder that VR's future is being shaped by people who aren't afraid to think big. From gas stations on the edge of the universe to underwater puzzles and realistic painting simulators, every pitch revealed a vision for what VR can be. Here's what we know: • Meta Quest player count is at an all-time high • 100+ million-dollar titles in 2025 • The tools are better and more accessible than ever The momentum is real. Now's the time to dive in. At GDC 2026, Chris Pruett (Director of Games, Meta) shared his annual update on the VR ecosystem. Despite broader game industry headwinds, the data paints an encouraging picture for developers: • Meta Quest usage reached an all-time high in 2025 • 100+ titles generated $1M+ in gross revenue • In-app purchase revenue grew over 10%+, distributed across more titles than ever • Meta Horizon+ surpassed 1M subscribers and paid out nearly $20M to participating developers • 57% of Quest 3+ owners used hand tracking in January 2026 For developers, the takeaway is clear: build for the audience that's coming, not just the one that's here. And design for hands-first interaction from the start. Read the full recap: https://bit.ly/4sH7Nnd
