Building a Stronger Mind
Your mind is a muscle like any other, and that's why it's key to train it! How do you do that? Glad you asked! We talked to mental experts to bring you the top tips:
- Life coach Rahti Gorfien, PCC, says that being mentally strong is about "accepting reality with equanimity, without attachments. And that's why I recommend to all my clients that they learn to meditate and they learn some sort of mindfulness because the process of meditation is the process of learning to separate. To learn to separate from your reactions to things and observe."[1]
- Licensed counselor Julia Lyubchenko, MS, MA, tells us that "our mind, technically, is not really that interested in good stuff. What it's interested in are threats and potential things that can hurt us or harm us in some way... So, knowing that that's our natural setting, it's our job to cue in our mind to also learn to recognize the good stuff."[2]
- Life coach Mark Fennell says that "What we think about most will define how we feel most and how we feel most will govern our decisions. And our decisions will govern our actions. And our actions become our habits. And our habits become our character, and our character becomes our identity."[3]
- Mindful communication coach Melanie Whitney stresses the importance of "eating nutritious food, drinking water, moving your body."[4]
- Pediatric pulmonologist and medical counselor Ran D. Anbar, MD, FAAP, says to "Encourage yourself to keep going every day even when you only have a little time to improve yourself or are not making rapid progress."[5]
