I was wondering if there's a way to control any value in the linked material through the parent scene without overriding the material itself?

For example, add a Texture Coordinate node with an Empty object. Use Object output to control the color. If this material is then linked to an external file, you won't be able to control the Empty's position, and the material will not react to the new Empty in the scene. It is still looking for its local input. But is there any trick to actually read the value from the external scene?
