I'm new to QGIS. I extracted contour lines from a raster layer, set Z values and exported to DXF to be able to import into Blender. When visualizing the contours in QGIS they look fine. But when the exported DXF is imported into Blender the contour lines are ragged and intersecting (examples below). I tested opening the file in FreeCAD and it looks the same as in Blender.

I guess I'm doing something wrong when exporting the layer from QGIS. I exported right-clicking the layer, Export -> Save features as -> DXF with No symbology and Geometry automatic.

Any advice what may be causing this and how to fix it?

I'm running QGIS version 3.26.3-Buenos Aires on Ubuntu 20.04.

I followed the same steps but with elevation contours using v3.40 on Windows and couldn't replicate your issue (my result shown below). v3.26 is quite outdated now, can you test with an updated version?

  • I had problems updating it in Linux so I moved to Mac and repeated the process. MacOS 13.7.2 + QGIS 3.40.2-Bratislava. I got the same results, the ragged lines when the DXF is imported into Blender/FreeCAD. My file has 2 oddities that I can think of, it doesn't have a valid CRS (I imported from a DWG the architect sent me and no CRS was identified) and the contours step is small, 1 meter. Can those things cause issues? Commented Jan 12 at 1:41
