"Wir gestalten einen Ort des nachhaltigen Lebens, Arbeitens und Lernens."
"We are shaping a place for sustainable living, working, and learning."
Gut Einern e.V. is a community-driven non-profit founded in September 2021 in Wuppertal, Germany. We transform an old farm estate into a regional transformation centre for sustainability, circular economy, and open innovation — where people, nature, and technology thrive together.
Our work spans:
- 🥦 Permaculture garden & vertical farm – growing food locally and sustainably
- 🔧 Maker lab & open workshop – hands-on fabrication and prototyping for everyone
- 🏡 Coworking & community spaces – open kitchen, meeting rooms, and shared infrastructure
- 🎓 Akademie auf Gut Einern – workshops, courses, and learning formats for all ages
- ☀️ Renewable energy – solar panels and ecological building practices on-site
We are a founding member and core actor of the FAB.Region Bergisches Städtedreieck — Germany's first FAB Region, part of the global Fab City movement.
Together with partners across the Bergisches Städtedreieck (Wuppertal · Remscheid · Solingen), we are building a collaborative, circular, and locally productive region that shares knowledge and tools openly:
| Partner | Focus |
|---|---|
| Gut Einern e.V. | Sustainability hub & education |
| Gründerschmiede Remscheid | Entrepreneurship & making |
| Gläserne Werkstatt Solingen | Digital fabrication |
The FAB Region framework is rooted in the principle of moving cities and regions from "importing everything" to "producing locally" — reducing environmental footprints while strengthening resilience and community ownership.
We believe that open knowledge is a commons. Everything we build, design, and learn is meant to be shared freely so others can adapt, improve, and build on it. This is why we embrace open-source culture across all our projects:
- 📖 Open educational resources and workshop materials
- 🛠️ Open hardware designs from our maker lab
- 🌐 Open data and transparent reporting
- 🤝 Collaboration over competition — with local communities and globally
All our software projects on GitHub follow open-source licensing principles. Contributions, feedback, and forks are always welcome!
This GitHub organisation hosts code, tools, and resources created at and for Gut Einern — from infrastructure automation and community tools to educational content and digital fabrication designs.
Whether you're a developer, designer, educator, farmer, or simply curious — there's a place for you at Gut Einern.
