If I choose in gimp coloring under colors -> coloring it is working, but in the preview and if I save the file it does not work.

Here is a screenshot: screenshot from gimp The red line/mark is the preview and it does not change, if I coloring my image. Same as I save my file.

My settings: enter image description here

May be someone can help me, thanks.

I do not know why, but my image -> mode was set to indexed. So I have changed it to RGB and it is correctly working now.

  • That's because the file was saved in Indexed colour mode. Indexed colour is commonly used in PNG files, and all GIFs are Indexed too. Indexed colour is encoded within the file itself, and has nothing to do with GIMP. Also, GIMP will not automatically change the colour mode - it's something only the user can do. • Also if you check the file name when you open an image in GIMP (at the top left corner of the application window) - you will be able to see it is in Indexed Colour. It will say something like [Filename] (Imported - 1.0 (Indexed colour Commented Nov 5 at 18:25
