I have a parent site and from that parent site I have created a Document Cite subsite. The Document Center subsite has quite a few libraries based on content and permissions for groups outside our team. When I perform a search using the search bar on the parent site, I get all documents from all the libraries in the Document Center subsite that match the search criteria. However, when I use the search bar from the Document Center subsite, I only get libraries that match the search term. Yet, when I open a library, the search bar works within the library.

I am the owner and creator of both the parent site and Document Center subsite. The behavior is exactly the same for everyone on my team regardless of their permission level.

  • Yes the "Allow items from this document library to appear in search results?" is set to "Yes" for all libraries in the Document Center subsite.
  • I created a custom search page and it searches all of the libraries in the Document Center subsite just fine.
  • The "Search this site" in "Classic Experience" works exactly like it should, so this seems to be limited to the search bar on the "New Experience" page.
  • I have been through all the search settings on the Document Center subsite "Site Settings" configurations to no avail.

So does anybody know why the search bar only on a Document Center subsite does not search within any of the libraries but the search bar on the parent site does search all the libraries of the Document Center subsite and returns the results?

Thanks, Rob
