Absolute Johannes factotum
- SCP-1013 (?)
- SCP-1013 is a dangerous reptile with a bird-like head and a long, flexible tail, measuring about 60 centimeters in body length with a 121-centimeter tail. It hunts by paralyzing targets that make eye contact with it, causing a sudden, painful paralysis that lasts for about eight minutes. After paralysis, it bites the victim, which quickly causes their skin and outer tissues to calcify and harden, turning them into a stone-like shell within fifteen minutes. SCP-1013 then pecks through this hardened layer to consume the living tissues inside. This creature reproduces by rapidly forming cysts in its tail after eating, which then release juvenile versions of itself, leading to rapid infestations if not properly contained.
- Onion Futures Act (?)
- The Onion Futures Act is a United States law, enacted in 1958, that prohibits the trading of futures contracts on onions, and later, motion picture box office receipts. This law was a direct response to a 1955 incident where two traders, Sam Siegel and Vincent Kosuga, cornered the onion futures market on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, manipulating prices and causing significant financial losses for onion farmers. The ban, which remains in effect, led to a period of struggle for the Chicago Mercantile Exchange before it diversified into other commodities like pork bellies and orange juice. The act has also provided a unique case study for academics examining the impact of futures markets on commodity price volatility, with divided opinions on whether the ban increased or decreased price stability for onions.
