Getting ready to buy a new computer
Nov. 5th, 2009 01:45 pmWell, I am finally getting ready to buy a new laptop. My current one is a Macbook G4, running Panther, so it is well behind in hardware and software. I was waiting for Snow Leopard before I took the plunge. It's here, it's been out for a month and the basic bugs should be fixed, so I am going to buy a new laptop. I am springing for a Mac Pro this time - faster, bigger hard drive.
Before I get the new one I have to clean up the data on the old one so I don't transfer too much stuff. I spent 2 hours last night starting to clean out my email on the laptop; there were about 8000 emails, lots from a couple of Pros and Mag7 mailing lists. I really have a hard time letting go of information. I have not re-read those posts but I never cleaned them out either. Some of the Pros posts were interesting to look at again; 2004 and 2005 were big conversation times on Pros-Lit and ProsLanguage. Of course I don't have to save them on my laptop; I can still read the posts on Yahoo. I need to keep telling myself that.
After I get the email cleaned out I will go for the multitudinous web pages I saved. Some I will keep, but a lot have served their purpose and need to yield their space to something new.
I get 30 minutes of free help when I buy the new machine; I am making a list of questions. The big one is how to transfer emails and iTunes data, and my bookmarks. Of course, I really need to clean up and organize the bookmarks too.
