I had a problem arise with my iMac [2021 M1, 4 ports] mid-September and called Apple Support. They suggested making an appt. at the Apple store and I did, and brought it in for review. The following day I picked it up and was told it needed to have the monitor assembly replaced ($548 + $99 labor) which came with a 90-day warranty. My computer is about 4.5 years old now and I can't say I have the confidence to buy another iMac and prematurely replace the one I have. Another APPLE forum shows over 740 unique individuals have posted and clicked "me too" with this issue. I have now been having to use a separate monitor to be able to work for the last 6 weeks.

Is anyone willing to share their work-around solution, whether you decided to go with a separate monitor, a mac mini, get your monitor replaced or another solution?

I’m sorry you have this problem, but this is a question and answer forum. Do you have a question, keeping in mind that no one here speaks for Apple or has any special influence on Apple? Commented Nov 6 at 3:05
  • Apple seems to handle repairs on a modular basis. Every part belongs to a module, such as a “monitor assembly,” and if any part of a module is faulty, the whole thing has to be replaced. For the consumer, that’s OK when the repair is under warranty, but not otherwise. You might get a better estimate from an independent service provider who is willing to do a more targeted repair, if that’s possible. You may be hoping for Apple to extend the warranty on your device, but the odds are against it. Commented Nov 7 at 17:06
