Here's a topic to discuss this week.

How many books to you read at a time? Can you only handle one, or do you start eight and then finish them all three months later? Do certain ones pull ahead of other ones?

I for one am currently reading six books. I'm not very far into any of them, but I will finish at least some of them soon I hope!

I generally have two books going at a time, and an audiobook in the car. One that I keep with me when I go into waiting rooms and when I have breaks at teaching, the other I read at night before I go to bed.

I typically have 1-3 going at a time. It's always one fiction book, and one or two non-fiction books. I read a lot of mystery/thriller novels and have trouble keeping track of 'the little things' if I'm reading more than one at a time. I usually read a non-fiction book throughout the day as I have time (when my son toddles off for periods of time for self-directed play) and save the fiction for after he goes to bed. I get a *tad* cranky if I'm interrupted while reading fiction. ;)

I usually read only one and finish it fast. If I read more than one, the storylines mix up in my head and it's impossible to untangle.

It varies, but usually at least two. Right now I have two by the bed, one in my purse, and an audiobook. When I was working, I'd have one in my desk and one in my car, too.

I'm a one book at a time kinda guy; sometimes, I'll have a 2nd book going, but it's almost always short stories or essays or whatever, stuff to read on the crapper.

But even that's pretty rare. One book. Not for any getting them mixed up or whatnot - but whe I read more than one, I tend not to read any of them. Go figger.

I usually read one to two books at a time. I have three going occassionally, but more than that just doesn't work for some reason. I don't generally get plots mixed up or anything like that, but I just don't get as much enjoyment out of them. Currently I'm reading one at home and one at work on my breaks, and that's really nice.

When I was in school, I could read a couple books at a time out of pure necessity, but when reading for my own pleasure, I don't like doing more than one at a time. I guess I like to savor the book, or at least devote my full attention to it.

I'm usually reading one or two reference/non-fiction books, plus a novel I carry in my purse. And often an anthology, for when I just want to read something short before bed. If I pick up something I'm really, really engaged in, I know I can't stop at just one or two chapters -- I'll finish it rather than sleep!

I can only do one for pleasure at a time, but because my classes usually involve a ton of reading, I end up reading several books at a time for school. For some reason, the school reading doesn't bother me, but when I'm reading only for myself I feel like I'm "cheating" if I move on to another book without finishing the first one.

I prefer to read one book at a time. I really like escaping into the world for a little while, just engrossing myself in the details and the characters and their life so having more than one going at a time kind of...breaks the enchantment.

I agree with this. Once I get into a book, I'm SO into that one story that I want to eat it all up before I can move on to something else. This does sometimes make it hard for me to 'give up' on a good book that I've finished and gather up the will to move on to new characters and stories, though. :)

I can only really read one fiction book at a time overwise I lose track of the plot, though sometime I can read a non-fiction book at the same time.

I generally read two or three books at a time, depending on how engrossed in any particular one.

I have a whole shelf of books that I'm "in the process" of reading, but I'm usually only ever actively reading between two and four of them. Once in a while I'll abandon all of the others for one I'm really into, though, and I like those times the best ;)

I can have any number of books going at one time, but some will get neglected. At the moment I've got four books in progress, but two of them are on a backburner. Since I got a goodreads account, I tend to only have three going, since that's how many will display...

Very typically I'll start multiple books, but I'll only read one. The others generally fall by the wayside and get ignored for...well, years. It turns into a sort of survival of the fittest concerning which one manages to hold my attention.

Of course, I always aspire to only read one book. I have this weird semi-fear about reading more than one after seeing an episode of this old show when I was a teenager. In which a kid who wouldn't read just one thing - who kept starting books and never finishing them - was attacked by all of the villains of all the books he'd not finished. You'd think, now that I'm almost 30, I wouldn't still think about that show, but I do. >_>

I usually have two or three going at once. But one always over-powers the others. Like, right now, I have Twilight and Harry Potter #5 going, and I've not touched Twilight for a few days and nearly finished HP.
Oh and I have an Anne Rice going, but I'd completely forgotten about it. haha!
