Here is my score breakup
General Considerations(maximum = 58): 55 Documentation(maximum = 20): 20 GUI(maximum = 24): 19 Server(maximum = 53): 51
I must realy thank this group for all the valuable discussions. Without the group I would have been able to complete the assignment. I am particularly happy since I have no java work experience and I learnt java primarily through this project.
I realy took a very simple approach to the project, just the basics required.
- I used RMI
- Server had no GUI , just simple DOS shell
- I attached to the different modes (local and network) using command line parameters
- No client id tracking in the lock.
- My GUI had everything on one screen
- My documentation was very elaborate and I documented everything.
Thanks guys
This group is great

Hi,
You get 20 marks in doc, that is great.
On javaranch, you say "My documentation was very elaborate and I documented everything. " But what this sentance means, how do you make comments and documents.
I find the comments of the original FBN java files downloaded from web are not so good, at least it doesn't go with sun's document recommandation. Do you think so?
What is your style to make comments and documents?
BTW, do you add comments on interface?

Thanks Mark for pointing out . Yes I did forget the "NOT". This group has been great. I took the written exam last Tuesday (20th) and got my results on the 29th. I seem to remember from your posts that Mark you submitted the assignment around the same time.
Regarding the documentation. I meant realy elaborate documentation in the readme.txt, user documentation and design choices documentation. Otherwise within the code , as per the specs I just documented the functionality of the public classes in the javadoc format.

I submitted last Wednesday, and took the essay exam this past Sunday, so I should find out next week, if they are moving that fast too.
Cool, I keep checking though. The waiting is the hardest part, even harder than the lock/unlocking mechanism

The thing that worries me most is the written exam. I am doing the assignment completely by myself, which is what the exam is supposed to check, but nonetheless, I can still see myself getting the program to work but failing the questions.
How long did you prepare for the written part? What did you study? What questions did you see?

Donald take a deep breath, and forget about the written exam. If you write the assignment, and complete a design.txt like the one they ask for in the requirements, you have written the written exam.
The written exam is just really rehash what you wrote in the desing.txt.
It took me 30 minutes. And that's only because I checked my spelling.

congrats first for getting through the exam!
Now i need some advice!
I took the exam on 30th Oct. Have'nt heard from them as yet.
I have a feeling that there is something wrong with the way i uploaded the assignment.
I named the jar file as per the candidate id for the java2 "programmer" exam.
I got the confirmation as well that the upload went through properly.
Then i took the developer written test and got a different candidate id.
Now do they expect me to upload the jar file using this id as well???
programmer id = xyz // my jar file is names scjda-xyz.jar
developer test id = abc
I'm totally confused! please let me about your thoughts.
thanks,
prav.

Well I used the programmer's id when uploading, and that is all you need. Forget about a different ID for the written Exam. Besides that is probably the voucher number, and not your ID, maybe.
But if you think they should have been done, send and e-mail to them and ask them.
